Accessible to blind and visually impaired people
In recent years the Library has established a course to train blind and visually impaired people to become sound technicians, and as a result two blind sound technicians have joined the Library recording studios. Currently there is no similar accessible training, so we regard the training course is an absolute necessity. We are working to leverage existing technology and to create the appropriate conditions that will allow us to integrate blind sound technicians and editors, so that together with them we will raise awareness and remove another barrier to employment. It is important to note that a rehabilitation professional from the Ministry of Welfare will be involved in the process.
Having gained experience in training blind sound technicians, both from the perspective of teacher and employer, we realize our potential to become groundbreakers in Israel in the development of accessible training for sound technicians, so that they will be able to work not only in the Library's recording studios, but also in the labor market as a whole. As an established institution working for visually impaired people, we will do our utmost to absorb students who excel at the course as employees of the Library, and we will enable them to continue and develop professionally.
In order to connect our course graduates with graduates of external courses, we have joined with the leading institution in the field of sound training in Israel, the Ono Academic College School of Music, and they are active partners in the student training program. The students who successfully complete the training will receive certification from the Ono Academic College School of Music and The Central Library for Blind and Reading Impaired People.
The course will run for 3 semesters, with 6 official hours per week. In addition, practice stations will be made available to students as required.
