TELEBOOK
The Telebook is a telephonic catalog which enables the
caller to locate the requested book according to format: Braille, recorded
cassettes, on recorded CD or large print. In each format books can be
chosen according to author, title, subject or ‘new books’.
At the beginning of each month a list of new books and a newsletter
are publicized. We recommend that readers keep up to date with this
information.

A Guide to Using the Telebook Service
On dialing 03-6060620 the following announcement (in Hebrew) is heard:
You have reached 'Telebook', the central book ordering section of the Library for the Blind. Please enter your identity card number, including the final digit.
Enter your ID number, which will be between 7 and 9 digits. The answering service will repeat your number and give the following message (in Hebrew):
To confirm your ID number, press 2; to change it, press 4.
Following the verification, the following message will be heard:
To order books in Braille, press 2; on cassette, 3; on CD, 4; in large print, 5; for the Newsletter, 6.
The caller has to order the required book. As an example, we have chosen to order a book on CD.
Having pressed 4, the following announcement is heard:
You have chosen CDs. To locate a book by author, press 2; by title, press 3; by subject, press 4; for new books, press 5; for clarification, 8; to return to the previous menu, press 9.
If you wish to locate a book according to author, press 2, and the following announcement will be heard:
Enter the first letters of the required author's surname.
In order to locate the book, enter the first three letters, for example
Oz Amos (written in Hebrew) with the letters (Oz) ayin, vav, zayin;
(Amos) ayin, mem, vav, samech ).
The first letters are ayin, vav, zayin

The automatic answering machine will repeat the letters ayin, vav, zayin and the follwing message will be heard:
To confirm, press 2; to correct, press 4; for clarification, press 8; to return to the previous menu, press 9.
Following verification, (and pressing 2) you will receive a list of
authors' names which begin with these first three letters.
Press number 4 repeatedly, until you reach the name Oz, Amos.
Note: pressing 4 takes you to the name of the next author on the list; pressing 3 takes you to the previous author on the list; pressing 2 takes you to the that author. To listen to the list of books by Oz, Amos, press 5. You will receive details of the name of the book, a summary of its contents, the length of the recording, the number of compact disks it comprises and the name of the narrator. To move to the next book, press 4; to order the book, press 5. You will hear the following message:
Your order has been registered.
If you wish to locate a book according to title, press 3, and the following announcement will be heard:
Enter the first letters of the required book title.
For example, to locate the book with the Hebrew title Rodef Ha'afifonim (The Kite Flyer) written with the Hebrew letters (Rodef) resh, vav, daled, peh (Ha'afifonim) heh, ayin, peh, yud, peh, vav, nun, yud, mem:
Enter resh 20, vav 06, daled 04 and the automatic answer will repeat the numbers. To verify, press 2; to correct, press 4.
Following verification, you will reach the list of books which begin with the letters resh, vav, daled – to move through the list, press number 4 until you reach Rodef Ha'afifonim. You will hear a summary of the book, the length of the recording, the number of disks and the name of the narrator.
To order the book, press 5. You will hear the message:
Your order has been registered.

For the purposes of Telebook, the letters of the Hebrew alphabet are represented by numbers from 01 – 22 as follows:
aleph – 01; bet – 02; gimmel – 03; dalet – 04; heh – 05; vav – 06; zayin – 07; het – 08; tet – 09; yud – 10; kaf – 11; lamed – 12; mem – 13; nun – 14; samech – 15; ayin – 16; peh – 17, tsadi – 18; kuf – 19; resh – 20; shin – 21, tav – 22.
If you wish to locate a book according to subject, press 4, and the following announcement will be heard:
Please enter the number of the required subject
For example for The Land of Israel and the State of Israel, enter number
14.
You can locate a book according to its title and author, or press 23
to hear all the books or authors within the subject.
To move through the list, press number 4.

After ordering the CD, if you wish to order books in Braille, on cassettes or in large print, press 9 and the initial announcement will be heard:
To order books in Braille, press 2; on cassette, 3; on CD, 4; in large print, 5; for the newsletter, 6.
Pressing 9 and # (hash) after ordering a book takes you one level back (within the format you are currently in – digital CDs, Braille etc) and allows the choice according to author, title, subject or new books.
The ordering process for every type of book is similar to the one described for the CD.
To reach the list of new books produced during the previous month,
press number 5. In this section you will receive details of new books.
You can move through the list by pressing number 4. To move forwards,
press 3; to go backwards to repeat the announcement you just heard,
press 2. To order, press 5.
