Upgrading the Cataloging and Lending Software
These last few weeks we at the library have been busy with the last preparations towards replacing the old cataloguing and lending software that has served us for the last 20 years with a new one called ALEPH 500.
This change has required us to replace all of the existing hardware, servers, computers and work stations and covert the catalogue and the records and indeed all of the existing data and adapt it to a new technology.
We also had to develop new interfaces in order to enable the borrowing of new books by means of the Telebook, as well as the registration of addresses and other data required for the production of the books. The new software will be more efficient and will improve the level of service we provide our readers.
In addition to our regular work the library staff is being coached and trained in the use of these new tools.
The installation of the new software and the adaptation to the new procedures will take five days beginning March 19th. Regular services will resume on March 24th.
We are aware of the delays in the delivery of books and we would appreciate
your patience and understanding. Please allow us to complete the work
in an orderly fashion.
Braille Navigation Competition
Following our newsletter regarding the Braille Nav Competition we received tens of applications.
As advertised, the competition will take place on the morning of April 3rd in Ramot Menashe and will include lunch and a visit to the Ramat David squadron base.
A detailed schedule and travel arrangements will be sent to the participants in writing two week prior to the event.
We apologize for having to refuse requests to have family members join the participants but the event is meant to encourage the use of Braille and the seats on the bus are limited.
Sincerely,
Uri Cohen
