CENTRAL LIBRARY FOR THE BLIND VISUALLY IMPAIRED & HANDICAPPED

NEWSLETTER

January 2011

Hello,

We celebrate the beginning of a new year with the appointment of a new C.E.O to the library, Mr. Yoav Hepher, who will serve the library until the nomination of a permanent C.E.O.

Yoav has a wide experience in the Israeli corporate world, as the former C.E.O of several companies, including the MATAV cable company, in which he dealt, among other issues, with the world of studios and contents.

Following the agreement reached with the Registrar of Associations, the library has been granted a "Proper Management" badge of approval for the year 2010, an agreement which resulted in the advancement of the support funds by the Ministry of Science, Culture and Sports. Thus, the library managed to pull out of the period of uncertainty it recently experienced.

The library's management, with the full participation of the new C.E.O, has taken upon itself to make peace between the members of the association, and even held a few peace-making and dialogue meetings, during which it was agreed upon to carry out a joint activity aimed at the promotion, and strengthening of the library, and at making the utmost effort to avoid a situation in which the mere existence of the library is put at stake.

In the course of the last working meetings, several important issues were discussed, among others – achieving new funding sources for the library and jointly preparing for the library's 60th anniversary, with an event aimed at increasing public awareness of the unique contribution of the library as a key institution which faithfully serves the blind, visually impaired and handicapped in Israel.

As the chairman of the association's governing council, I wish you, readers, members of the association, library's employees and all of its friends and followers, pleasant reading, and many more years of mutual enrichment and contribution.

Best Regards,
Gil Shavit
Chairman
