The transition from analog to digital format

We are frequently asked by our readers for books which have not yet been converted to CD format. Our CD library currently holds only 1,500 titles. The Library has thousands of books in analog format, but the process of converting them to CD will take years. Priority is determined according to subject, demand, the quality of the analog tape and the standard of the narration. If the book does not meet our standards we prefer to re-record it from a newer edition or from a better translation.

The demands of our readers are varied and everyone has their individual areas of interest. At this stage we are trying to convert those books which will interest the majority of our readers. The rate at which our readers are changing to MP3 format is fast, and we are encouraging this change despite difficulties in dealing with books that were recorded before the transfer to digital recording.

Navigation in Braille

Many of our readers of Braille have asked us to revive the competition in Braille navigation. In response to the requests we are now planning the next navigation activity. Further details will appear in the coming newsletter.
