February 2009
Dear Reader,
The Biennial Jerusalem International Book Fair is soon
to take place at Binyanei Ha'uma in Jerusalem, and this year The Library
is privileged to participate in this important book fair:
Hundreds of publishers from many countries will display their books
at the fair and we deem it very important to have the blind and the
visually impaired join in this huge cultural celebration.
We appreciate the Fair management's gesture in enabling the Library
to participate in this event and to introduce its readership and the
public to its activities.
The library's stand will display Braille books, book on CDs, CD players
and a CD Duplication System.
Our participation will afford the readers who have not yet visited the
Library facilities to meet the staff and receive instructions, explanations
and help on every aspect of our services. We will also be selling recorded
copies of The Bible, Britannica La'noar, Madrich Israel, Merk and The
Shulchan Aruch.
The library will also host 2 special events during the Fair where we
will be bringing together readers, narrators and writers. We plan to
have the narrators read passages from some best sellers and then have
the readers express their opinions on the various genres. These events
are scheduled to take place at the Teddy Hall on Monday the 16th of
February between 11:00-13:00 and on Wednesday the 18th between 16:00-18:00.
We heartily invite our readers to visit the Fair, mingle with the many
visitors who are interested in the books on display on the various stands
and of course to visit our stand.
We at the library know that the blind are "The people of the Book"
and it is only natural that they should take part in this cultural celebration.
The Jerusalem International Book Fair will open on Sunday the 15th of
February at 4 P.M. and will continue through to the 20th of February
2009 -- between 10 A.M. and 10 P.M.
The opening ceremony will feature the presentation of the prestigious
Jerusalem Prize to the author Haruki Murakami and will be honored by
the presence of President Shimon Peres.
The Library's stall location: please cross to the other side of the
lobby, on both sides of the Steimatzky stands; On the right hand side
you will find the Reshet Beth Sound Studio and from there go straight
ahead to the door on your right.
Admission is free of charge.
Looking forward to seeing you there,
Uri Cohen
