NEWSLETTER
October 2011
Dear Reader,
In September, Yoav Hepher finished his term as CEO of the Library. Yoav took the role of CEO as a temporary appointment which has now come to an end. We would like to thank Yoav for his extensive and important work for the advancement of the Library, and we wish him every success in the future.
Until the next CEO is chosen, the position will be filled by Zvi Engel, Chairman of the Board.
You have probably heard via the different media sources that the Library has raised a public debate concerning the lack of support from the Ministry of Education for blind students in Israel.
You will be aware that students are requested to send us their printed books for copying to Braille ready for the academic year. We at the Library do our utmost to produce the required books by September 1, but as things stand, the students depend on the booklists that are distributed at different times by the schools.
Last May the Library approached the Ministry of Education requesting help in transferring files of textbooks throughout the year, on an ongoing basis. This would enable us to shorten the process of copying them to Braille and would enable students to begin the academic year with all their textbooks prepared.
We hope that this request will bear fruit as soon as is possible, allowing us to provide all reading-handicapped students (the blind and reading impaired) with all the textbooks they need, in time.
We would like to emphasize that by Septemer 1, the Library had produced 110 books for the 2011/12 school year.
During the intermediate days of Succot, October 13 – 20, 2011, the Tel Aviv branch of the Library will be closed. The Netanya branch will run with a skeleton staff until 1pm.
Normal activity will resume October 23.
The Library Management and Staff wish you a Happy New Year.
